You who are reading this right now are likely engaged in some form of professional consultation services or wish to be and may have been asked by a client if you could help them determine the value of a privately held business. Publicly held companies are appraised every day on the stock market; however, the corner hardware store, the local coffee shop, a regional distributor, or even a small manufacturing business located just outside of town are harder to put a value on.

Some will say a business is worth whatever anyone will pay for it, but what if no one wants to sell the business?

What if:

  • the ownership interest is a party to marital dissolution

  • a non-controlling owner wishes to be bought out by the controlling shareholder or enterprise

  • the owner has passed away, and now the estate needs to decide on the business operations

BCA Course line up

The ISBA has upgraded our Business Certified Appraiser (BCA) training courses to more closely approximate how an online college course would function.

We have two versions set up:

  • A self-paced option where students will be able to progress as fast or as slow as they wish through the course materials for $1,500.

  • An eight-week version of the course where we have sections broken out into a collection of weekly pre-reading materials, followed by an hour or two of live instruction each week for $2,100.
